Learn 2 Fly - This penguin off a ledge

It's been a really long time since the blog's been last updated. But well a lot of stuff been going on and I am now a new author to this blog, I'm actually the brother of XFrag.

After this little introduction let's continue with the review :P I've been searching for some days to find a good flash game and I didn't think that it will take a lot of time but I was in for a surprise. Eventually I stumbled upon this little game here, which won me in the first few minutes. There's nothing I like more than good humor and the game made me smile at the start menu: "Start Game" or "Start Muted (I'm undercover)"

I started the game and a cinematic took place which was a really pleasant surprise. The point of this game is to make that little penguin's device fly and destroy some obstacles from the Snowman to the WALL. You start with a small amount of money and you get more by accomplishing impressive flights. You spend your money on upgrading your ledge, fuel and your arsenal. Your arsenal has it all,from kites to small aircrafts and dynamites for extra boost.

The gameplay is easy you only use the keyboard to control the device's angle. If you turn up you'll start losing speed due to the wind's resistance but get height. If you turn down you'll start losing height but gaining speed; fast. But the red bar on you speed meter means that you've gone over your device's speed limit and you don't actually go quicker you just get more wind resistance so it's a smart move to turn up. Explaining the whole game mechanics will take the game's fun away, you've got to learn how to fly!

The music is cool and it builds up as you gain speed. There are some funny animations and simple yet beautiful design. I found the game original since I've never seen something like it, it's not your standard flying simulation game and it's really worth checking out. See you on the air and have fun!

SWFRoads - SkyRoads Remake in flash

It looks like game programmers who make games using Macromedia's Flash platform like to create remakes of classic games. You can verify this statement by simply performing a search on Google for the keywords "flash remake". I've just tried it and got around 36.000 links on result. Maybe a remake is the easiest way to start programming, because you don't have to invent a game yourself. Or you like the original so much and you want to recreate it in flash.

Anyway, SwfRoads is another flash game of the previously discussed category, being a remake of SkyRoads, a racing game released back in 1993. Your target is to lead your spaceship on the game's "roads" without falling into outer space, or crashing onto walls. The control of the spaceship is accomplished through the use of your keyboard's arrow keys. Up arrow to accelerate, down to decelerate, left and right to move towards the equivalent direction. You can also jump using the space bar or the shift key.

SwfRoads features very simple, yet enough addictive gameplay. Try a level and you'll realise that driving a spaceship on sky roads can be a very enjoying way to waste your time. On the graphics side, don't expect anything flashy. As for the music, thing aren't the same. The game has a nice techno soundtrack creating a "need for speed" feeling to the player.

Uniroyal Fun Cup - Race with a turbo-charged VW Beetle

From all the flash racing games I've played till today (and there's a lot out there) this is the best. It is well implemented and realistic, fun to play and challenging. You drive the old Volkswagen Beetle customized as a race car and try to beat your opponents on track, while making the best lap times.
What I like in this game is it's very good pseudo-3d graphics engine. The game is 2d in reallity, but the designers made it look so good that you think you're playing a 3d game. There's four different tracks on witch you can try your skills: Belgium, Italy, Great Britain and Germany. All of them are looking good, each one with it's own difficulties and tricky spots.
At sound level, the game is doing good also. You can hear the car's engine roar as you drive faster and the tires scream as you slip on tight turns. It's a pity that there's no in-game music though, it could be a good addition.
You control your car with the same way you do on most racing games: up arrow key to accelerate, down arrow key to break and reverse, left and right arrow keys to steer.
